Growing up, I had always heard stories of how my mom became an immigrant in America. Vietnamese boat people, also known simply as boat people, were refugees who fled Vietnam by boat and ship following the end of the Vietnam War in 1975. My mother had escaped Vietnam, took a boat to Malaysia, and spent 5 days out in the middle of the ocean, without any food or water. “Path to Freedom” tells the story of my mother’s incredible journey and captures the history of the Vietnamese boat people.
