Underground: transforming a former no-man’s land into a colorful art park

Environmental Design, Branding, Art Direction, Naming, Research and Strategy

Challenge

Underground at Ink Block is an urban park located under I-93 in the South End of Boston. Once a desolate underpass, Underground has been transformed into a new public space with a dog park, basketball court, murals, and artistic space for events.

The visual language and the twenty-two miles of wayfinding path stripes reference the official colors of highway signs and leads visitors directly into the heart of the park. I worked with the team at Visual Dialogue and National Development on naming and branding for the project and applying the graphics to the space.
